For my Metaphor of Self video, I wanted to create something personal, gentle, and emotionally grounded, so I used footage from my home in Venice, California. These familiar spaces, sunlight on the walls, the beach, my street, and small details from my house became symbols of the place and experiences that shaped who I am. Instead of constructing a fictional narrative, I listed the things I love, the things I dislike, and the small pieces of life that define me. The video became a soft reflection rather than a performance.

One of the challenges was deciding how to turn everyday footage into something meaningful. Because the clips were simple, the emotion had to come from how I arranged them: the pacing, the quiet moments, and the transitions between likes and dislikes. Another challenge was staying honest without oversharing, finding a balance between vulnerability and simplicity.

What I discovered through this project was how powerful personal archives can be. The footage wasn’t dramatic, but it carried emotional weight because it was real. Editing my own life made me more aware of how the environment shapes identity and how ordinary spaces can hold memory. The project taught me that introspection can be just as cinematic as fictional storytelling when approached with intention.
